29th Anniversary of the Center, with a fabulous 2014-15 Season Opening Reception and Art Auction planned to kick off the year in style. As you may know, the Center Gallery becomes a community art exhibition space for the month of October, as we celebrate our local artists and fundraise for our Arts Education programming.
We invite you to participate in our gallery exhibit and auction by donating a piece of art that will become a part of our annual art auction. You will receive exposure for your work and the thrill of helping support The Washington Center. All auction proceeds benefit The Center and our arts education and access programs.
ALL 6 of my submissions were accepted - WA State Fair, Fine Art Exhibit from September 5-21st with a reception on Sept 4th.
Dog Days of Summer , Sumi-e
Day Dreams which actually is on it's side... framed in a 20"HX10"W frame.
was up to 3am today [8/7] as I finished putting hanging wires and labels, etc. onto the finished art work. I don't recommend washing picture glass at that hour as the dang stuff looked streaky when I turned it in! I made 8 new pieces from Monday afternoon to early this morning - an art marathon!
here are the two mini submitted to WA State Fair Fine Art Exhibit - the frames are 5X7"

Working on more minis for next weekend's two day art sale up in Tacoma August 2nd and 3rd, 2014 -Saturday 10:30AM to 5:00PM and Sunday 10:30AM to 4:00PM
At the Mountaineers, 2302 North 30th Street, Tacoma WA.
actually priced mini canvasses and bought these on Amazon. They are much sturdier than the ones I used for 30x30 Avanti Exhibit.
They're museum wrap but not deep - only 1/2".
ready to paint and a little over two hours later
three 4X4" deep canvass wrap, 10 of the 4X4 shallow stretched canvas, six 5X5X3/4" and one 6X6X3/4"
Now to go print some block prints for cards... gather materials for back to back classes tomorrow/all week and work on these mixed media collages plus the 4 that I painted but never finished when I made the extra ones for the 30X30 exhibit. After I set up on Sat morning, I'm going to dash [if possible knowing the traffic] up to Seattle and retrieve the 30X30 pieces. I'll have to discreetly put screw eyes/wire on them to sell them at the Fine Art/Craft Summer Sale exhibit.
keep arting...

worn out from back to back classes 9 to noon and 1 to 4pm - plus having to get up early, etc. The kids are fun but comic book class was soooooooooooooooooo loud. those boys don't talk they yell. Plenty of enthusiasm
In Sketchbook Drawing class Wednesday, I had the students use ink/pens & colored pencils... they are age 12-16 and are so adult. They were almost too quiet. I give them how to/samples and they just sat and worked for the 3 hours... Monday we did charcoal and pastels & Tuesday was graphite...

Here are two of the fun projects done with the seven kids [8 to 12] in my Art Around the World class this week...
batik done with white glue...
I did my "glue" drawing free hand. You do have the option of crinkling the cloth. They did a practice drawing and the redrew onto the cloth.
after the glue is dried, watercolor paint is applied. It does slightly get the glue soggy again.
The second project was a modified block print using craft foam that has different textures.
Other projects included painting Sumi-e, a circular weaving, silhouettes, Australian dot painting, modeling clay, stenciling a windsock, and we're making a coil basket with yarn & last project will be an Inca foil mask.
I'm printing by pc printer lots of blank note cards for Gallery Boom spinner...
back to work!
