Last Saturday was my watercolor Textures and Technique class at Olympia Parks, Art and Recreation - Olympia Center.
I showed the participants three sets of techniques during the morning. They then would go make samples. Basically there were at least 27 samples to mimic. After lucnh they then could create a painting using how many of the techniques.
This is my sample painting - a landscape with a tree. You see many of these whenever I do demos - love those trees.
This is a close up: stiple with sponge on the foreground; rocks were painted and then wax paper put on top of the wet paint; tree trunk was painted and a foam padding was placed on top [the kind of protection that wraps small apliances]; the hill in the background had plastic wrap placed onto the wet paint and I sprinkled salt onto the river.
I need to rework the trees on the mid left just a bit and I'm thinking of putting a doe and fawn next to the tree. I've sketched it on tracing paper but need to make them a little smaller.
I may put apples on the tree and change up slighty to fall colors...
Last night, my watercolor pencil class had 9 participants - what fun!

I brought the 17 St Patrick's Day cards down to Traditions... Traditions Café and World Folk Art, 300 5th Avenue SW, Olympia, WA 98501 360-705-2819
Thanks to whomever has purchased my various blank note cards at Traditions and BAC on Bainbridge Island.
I sold 2 Valentine cards, 6 printed cards, and two original Sumi-e cards.
They give me 60% - really nice folks. Need to advertise and get those card sales back to a steady flow to help keep my fridge full! Will make some more and mail them to BAC - Bainbridge Arts and Crafts on Monday.

My acrylic class participants at Panorama voted unanimously to continue through March! As always I forget to bring my camera to take in progress photos. They are really increasing their skills using the fast drying acrylics. even with extenders, retarder or flow aide the paints dry quickly as the room is very warm This makes it more difficult to blend like you do with oils which have a notoriously slow drying time.
I created this image today [below] and started a second that just has sky to demo painting cloud and sky.
Winter's Depth (C)2/20/2014
We're all having fun painting!

Started to make some Saint Patrick's Day cards yesterday to take down to Traditions Café in Olympia... maybe later today.
Simple collage designs will be touched up with.... am thinking a little line work with a gold pen.
I will be having a Solo exhibit for the month of December at the Loft at Buck's Fifth Avenue above the Spice Shop, at 209 5th Avenue, Olympia, WA.
My theme: Summer and Winter Solstices as well as Spring and Fall Equinoxes signal change and are a time for reflection. Each season has its mentors and guides represented in my work. The collages offer a glimpse of this Universe as I envision it. I’m influenced by Zen concepts: harmony, balance, and mindfulness incorporating the Enso – Japanese for circle – in most of my pieces. The Enso is a spiritual symbol representing the absolute, the true nature of existence and enlightenment.
Miniature collage – size 4X4” to 11X14”
Happy Dance - that's my second exhibit for this year...
I will have a two person exhibit at The Gallery at Town Center, Shoreline/Lake Forest Park. I will be showing my mixed media for the month of October.
